Is Vaping Tobacco?

If there is one popular question to ask about vaping devices is that if they are considered tobacco products. In 2016, the Food and Drug Administration in the US established a rule for electronic cigarettes, other vape devices, and their e-liquids. E-cigarettes can contain nicotine coming from tobacco. This is why they are subject to government regulation as tobacco products. This tobacco product regulation is US-centric. There are countries around the world that do not include e-cigarettes in their tobacco product regulations. Canada is one such country. In Europe, some areas of the electronic cigarette regulation are found in the EU Tobacco Products Directive, but e-cigs are not considered tobacco products per se. If all products that contain nicotine which is derived from tobacco were considered tobacco products in the international arena, nicotine-replacement therapies would be considered as tobacco products too even if it is pretty clear that they are not.

Do electronics and vape pens necessarily have tobacco? Vaping devices run on batteries. These devices are used by people to inhale an aerosol that usually contains nicotine but not all the time. The aerosol also contains flavorings and other chemicals. These vaping devices often look like traditional tobacco cigarettes, pipes, or cigars. Some may even look like everyday items such as USB memory sticks and pens.

Don’t try to disable or remove them from the device.
